Qualifications Overview

One of the Institute’s objectives is to protect the public by fostering high standards of professional conduct and professional education, training, and competence among the five Clinical Measurement Physiology Professions:

  • Cardiac Clinical Measurement Physiology
  • Gastrointestinal (GI) Clinical Measurement Physiology
  • Neurophysiology Clinical Measurement Physiology
  • Respiratory Clinical Measurement Physiology
  • Vascular Clinical Measurement Physiology

This is done by:

  • Ensuring that the relevant educational bodies within the Republic of Ireland deliver qualifications that prepare professionals to provide safe and appropriate care.

In order to achieve this the Institute has developed Professional Education Standards of Proficiency, agreed upon with the Health Service Executive (HSE) Clinical Measurement Oversight Group. These standards are used to assess qualifications and to approve and monitor Irish entry-to-practice programmes. The HSE Clinical Measurement Oversight Group will take cognisance of this recommendation in setting its eligibility criteria for recruitment to these professions and as the ultimate decision-making authority, finalises the approval of these programmes and incorporates these decisions into the eligibility criteria for recruitment to the profession.
