Event Summary
Congenital learning with an aim to help adult cardiac physiologists to understand some complex heart disease, with clinical education from fellow accredited EACVI Cardiac Physiologists, Cardiology Consultants and Advanced Nurse Practitioners.
About the Event
The aim of the Congenital Day is to help those working in adult hospitals who may interact with complex heart disease gain insights to help with these patients.
Topics covered include:
- Congenital ECG
- Transposition of the Great Arteries
- Univentricular heart
- Coarctation of the Aorta
- Clinical applications in practice of Transposition of the Great Arteries, Univentricular heart and Coarctation of the Aorta
- Univentricular heart in the Cath Lab
- Congenital heart disease and pacemakers
This day is open to all who might interact with patients with CHD, including nurses and doctors.
There is 1 BSE CME accredited point for the half day of education.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the event, participants will hopefully:
- Have an understanding of what a normal ECG for a patient with complex disease can look like.
- Understand what to expect when scanning a patient with Transposition of the Great Arteries, Coarctation and Univentricular heart.
- Understand common causes of pacemaker issues with complex heart disease.
- Gain an understanding of some of the clinical impacts for patients with the above CHD.

Getting to Clinic 9:
Clinic 9 is located in the Whitty Wing, Level 2. The best entrance to use is the Whitty entrance on North Circular Road. When you enter, take the escalator or the A-Lifts up to Level 1. Continue down Hospital Street, the main corridor. Take the first right and take the C-Lifts to Level 2. Exit the lift and turn left to arrive at Clinic 9.
If you are coming from the car park:
Take the A-Lifts up to Level 1. Exit the lifts and continue down Hospital Street, the main corridor. Take the first right and take the C-Lifts to Level 2. Exit the lift and turn left to arrive at Clinic 9.
Speaker
Lisa Doolan – Senior Cardiac Physiologist, Mater University Hospital – In collaboration with Children’s Health Ireland Crumlin.
Lisa is a Senior Cardiac Physiologist with accreditation in Congenital Heart Disease from EACVI. She is currently working on Level II TTE BSE accreditation. Lisa currently works in the Mater University Hospital and CHI, hoping to help the Multidisciplinary Team in the Mater University Hospital with patients with complex heart disease.
