Current Role

Robbie Ryan is Chief II Cardiac Physiologist at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital (MMUH), a position he has held since 2010. MMUH is a Level 4 teaching hospital providing a broad range of frontline, specialist, regional, and national services, including Cardiac Surgery, Heart and Lung Transplantation, Extra Corporeal Life Support (ECLS), Pulmonary Hypertension, and the National Biohazard Isolation Unit.

Professional Experience

Robbie has over 25 years of experience in Clinical Measurement Physiology. During his tenure at MMUH, he has overseen significant growth in both invasive and non-invasive cardiac diagnostic services, supporting the expansion of the Cardiac Physiology workforce and the increasing complexity of service delivery.

Education & Professional Development

Robbie is a strong advocate for continuing professional development and lifelong learning. He has completed numerous qualifications and training programmes, including a Diploma in Healthcare Management, Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, in-service training in Healthcare and Law, Effectiveness in Representation, and a Professional Diploma in Performance Management through UCD, which he completed with distinction.

Professional Contributions

Robbie has represented the Irish Institute of Clinical Measurement Science through engagement with numerous advocacy groups, most notably the Acute Coronary Programme and Critical care workforce planning. Through this engagement the group delivered a comprehensive review and produced a report that resulted in the HSE sanctioning additional personnel to further support Primary PCI activity. He previously was the vice chair and then chair, now is again currently the Vice Chair of the Cardiac Faculty and also sits on vocational group.
